Conference USA Releases 2017 Preseason Poll and All-Conference Team
Mean Green Picked Sixth, Place Two On All-Conference Team
DENTON - For the second straight year, the North Texas volleyball team was picked to finish sixth in the Conference USA Preseason Poll, released by the league office on Wednesday.
The Mean Green placed two players on the C-USA Preseason Team in senior middle blockers Amanda Chamberlain and Holly Milam. The duo earned first team all-conference honors in 2016, and Milam was named to the all-conference second team in 2015.
Western Kentucky, the three-time defending league champion, enters 2017 as the preseason favorite to win the conference. Rice checks in at No. 2, followed by UT San Antonio, Southern Mississippi and Marshall.
North Texas head coach Andrew Palileo is set to begin his fifth season at the helm of the program, coming off a down year that ended with a 13-19 record and a 7-7 mark in C-USA play. North Texas returns nine letterwinners from last season, including the top five point scorers and four starters. Six incoming freshmen round out the 15-player roster.
North Texas opens the 2017 campaign on Friday, Aug. 25, when it hosts Tulsa in the North Texas Invitational, which includes Prairie View A&M and Montana. Conference play opens on Friday, Sept. 22, on the road against Southern Miss.
