Incoming Mean Green Freshman Honored
Fayetteville, AR. -- Incoming North Texas freshman Lauren Holmes was named Arkansas Prep Female Athlete of the Year by the Arkansas Democrat Gazette on Saturday.
Holmes, a 5-foot-9 guard who signed her national letter of intent in November of 2016, was a three-sport letter winner at Fayetteville High School and won three Arkansas state titles this past year as a senior. In total, Holmes graduated high school with five team state championships and four individual track competition titles.
A two-time Arkansas Girls Basketball All-State selectee, in March Holmes led her Bulldogs team to their second state championship in three years. The team ended this past season 30-2 and ranked No. 10 in the country.
Holmes was named Northwest Arkansas' Track Athlete of the Year for three consecutive seasons and won a state title as a junior and senior. She claimed a title in the triple jump (36 feet, 8 inches) and 100-meter hurdles (15.18 seconds) as a junior. As a senior she won a title in the long jump (17 feet, 1 inch) and she anchored the Bulldogs' championship 4x100-meter relay team that finished with a time of 49.04 seconds. She finished in the top three of every competition she participated in and her only third-place finish was the 100-meter dash where her time of 13.09 was half of a second off the winner.
In the fall of her senior season, Holmes played volleyball for the first time and once again led her team to a championship. Fayetteville ended the year 30-6 and ranked No. 33 in the country.
Additionally, Holmes graduated Fayetteville with a 3.9 G.P.A. while working two jobs.
