Cross Country Raising Money For 2017 Training Camp
Teams Will Stay At Rocky Shoals Resort In Arkansas
DENTON – The 2017 men’s and women’s cross country teams are raising money for the second-straight season to be able to train in the Ouachita National Forest in Mt. Ida, Arkansas, on August 16.
The $4,000 fundraising goal will cover travel expenses, lodging, and food for the 30 student-athletes competing for North Texas in cross country.
Last season, both teams were able to raise enough money to travel and train near the Arkansas mountains for the first-ever team training camp after generous donations from our alumni and supporters.
Team bonding is essential in building chemistry for the upcoming cross country season that begins in late August. This opportunity enables the team to train in cooler temperatures and run on challenging hills to prepare them for the season.
During the 2016 season, sophomore Susannah Lynch led the North Texas women to their first Ken Garland Invitational team victory in five years. Lynch earned first-team All-Conference USA honors after placing fourth in the conference championship. She also finished 23rd at the NCAA South Central Regional to qualify for All-Region status. On the men’s side, Florian Lussy was third team All-Conference USA after an 18th place finish and earned All-Region honors, coming in 15th at the NCAA South Central Regional.
