Track & Field Completes Outdoor Season At NCAA West Prelims
Freshman Breanna Eckels Placed 16th In Long Jump
AUSTIN - The North Texas track & field team finished the 2017 outdoor season at the NCAA West Preliminary round Friday night at Myers Stadium.
The Mean Green had six competitors compete for a shot at reaching the NCAA finals but all came up short of a top-12 finish.
On Thursday, sophomore Javier Lopez-Ibarra finished his 2017 outdoor campaign with a 36th place finish in javelin with a throw of 58.74 meters. Freshman Kristyn Archuleta ended her season with a 24th place finish in javelin with a throw of 45.49 meters.
Freshman Breanna Eckels completed the first day at the NCAA West prelims with a 16th place finish in long jump. Eckels fell four spots short of a top-12 finish to qualify for NCAA finals with a personal best jump of 6.22 meters, fourth best in school history.
On the final day, sophomore James Cole placed 31st in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.15, coming in seventh in the fifth heat. Senior Collin Heard completed his Mean Green career with a 44th place finish in the 200m dash with a time of 21.50.
In the final event of the day, senior James Coleman finished 37th in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:32.94, placing 11th in the third heat.
